DHET grants extension DHET grants extension of the phasing out of the National N Certificates: N1 - N3 (Engineering Studies) and N4 - N6 (Business Studies).
According to a statement released by the Chief Director of FET Colleges at the DHET - Dr Mahlobo to all FET Colleges - colleges have to take note of all the follwing as outlined herein:

• Gazette No. 33200 extends a limited number of N1-N3 programmes (Engineering Studies only) for the purpose of artisan development. In this regard the extension is subject to (a) to (c) of the Schedule of Gazette No. 33200

• Enrolments for 2010 must be line with what was approved by Provinces in the confirmation of budget per college. Provincially approved figures can be exceeded only in instances where the industry is willing to support the college at full programme cost. In short, there is no additional budget allocation.

• There must be careful planning of the utilization of infrastructure, learning facilities and human resources to ensure that the teaching and learning environment in the college is conducive to and supportive of a quality learning for all students.

• Arrangements must be in place for students to complete the work placement requirement for the award of the relevant Diploma by December 2016. Failure in this regard will leave large numbers of students with incomplete qualifications beyond this period.

• The first examination of pertaining to extended trimester programmes ( with specific reference to the attached Gazette) will be offered in July/August, whereas the first examination in relation to the extended semester programme (extended by the attached Gazette) will only be offered in October/November.
